Mandala artMandala workshopsI present workshops to teach you how to create your own mandala. The workshops will take place in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow - please phone or email to find out dates. If you are interested in attending, or finding out more, phone 086 1555617 or email laurenmaclennan@eircom.net These one-day workshops take you through the process of creating your own mandala using geometric shapes and meditation. The term 'mandala' comes from the Sanskrit word for circle. Mandalas are symbolic pictures or patterns used in meditation - their colours and geometry help to bring inner focus and peace. They are often in the shape of a circle, but may also be enclosed in a square or contain squares or other shapes within them. Mandalas occur abundantly in nature, and have also been created by many peoples throughout history and all over the world - from the North American Indians, to Australia, China, India and Tibet. They are not necessarily religious symbols. Carl Jung found mandalas to be very useful as 'representations of the unconscious self'. Mandalas are wonderful focussing aids in meditations, and indeed the very creation of a mandala is a meditative process in itself.
