FOOD SENSITIVITY TESTING USING KINESIOLOGY

Article written by Lauren MacLennan © 2011

Identification of food sensitivities by kinesiology is an effective, reliable and non-invasive method that is becoming increasingly popular. The kinesiologist does no diagnosis or invasive testing - all results are produced through muscle testing. This is a very interactive process and the client and kinesiologist discover the results at the same time, through the response of the muscle to the introduction of a particular food. There is no speculation involved - the answer is simply yes or no.

Sensitivity vs allergy
Sensitivities are different to full-blown allergies, and because they tend to be sub-clinical they are often missed by conventional medical tests. People often say they have had every test available, and nothing has been found. However, they still feel that their energy levels are low, they have physical symptoms such as bloating, constipation, reflux, and general discomfort and want to find solutions to their problems.
It is important to note the differences between allergies and sensitivities. Allergies occur within a short time of ingesting the food, with severe reactions including itching, rashes, and anaphylactic reactions. The body has an adverse immune response and produces histamine and antibodies in response to specific foods. Sensitivities tend to take longer to manifest, symptoms vary considerably and range from acne, bloating, constipation to fertility problems, learning difficulties, fatigue - mental and physical, heachaches and so on. Everyone responds differently.

Stress
Sensitivities to foods can be triggered by stresses of all kinds: overload or too much of a certain food over a period of time, deficiencies of stomach acid and digestive enzymes, vitamin or mineral deficiencies, insufficient water intake, lack of exercise, emotional stresses and energetic imbalances. Certainly anxiety can be the cause of digestive complaints, as can life-changing events, such as quitting smoking, changing jobs and relationship problems. Parasites, fungal infestations, bacteria, heavy metal accumulation, and environmental triggers including house dust, pet fur, pollen, can also compromise the body's ability to digest or tolerate certain foods.

Muscle testing
The kinesiologist conducts a series of muscle tests to identify where the client is currently holding stresses or blockages in the body. Then balance is restored by addressing possible nutritional, emotional, physical and energetic components of that stress. Once the client is 'in balance' foods are introduced, one by one, to see which of those take the body back to a stressed state.
This is all done through muscle testing. The clients arms and legs are placed in specific positions and the client is asked to resist a small amount of pressure applied to that limb by the kinesiologist. The muscle should be able to do this with ease. Then the food is introduced - those that cause a strong muscle to weaken are the foods to which the client is sensitive. Generally the food is tested on a few muscles, to confirm the response.

Restoring wellbeing
In addition to testing for food sensitivities, there are a number of kinesiology techniques that can help alleviate the symptoms of IBS - such as bloating, constipation, diarrhoea and acid reflux. By balancing the digestive system, the client is better able to digest, absorb and eliminate foods efficiently.
The client is advised to eliminate those foods to which they are sensitive for 2-4 weeks and assess how their body reacts. They may find that their digestion and elimination functions perform better than before, their quality of sleep improves, energy levels increase, other issues like respiratory complaints, aches and pains, skin conditions, and premenstrual stress ease.
This is because they have removed a source of stress from their lives, giving their bodies a better chance of performing optimally and healing. The actual balance resets them, and additional supplements boost the efficiency of the metabolic processes. The change in lifestyle and eating habits continues this restoration.
Often the results of the test confirm what the client has already suspected. If the client wishes to try introducing certain foods after this time, it is important that they do so at low levels, one at a time - and to monitor their body reactions. It is up to them to make the decision to keep the food out of their diet, or to deal with the consequences of including them. Often the removal of certain foods from the diet opens up a whole new spectrum and variety of foods not usually used by the client, and the resultant feeling of wellbeing leaves no reason to be tempted by the stress-inducing foods.
As with all therapies - complementary and conventional - there is no guarantee that the answer will reveal itself but clients have reported dramatic improvements after a kinesiology treatment and following the recommendations.
